The Food
Puttu with Kadala Curry
Puttu is one of the most iconic breakfast dishes of Kerala which is made with rice flour and coconut. It is mostly served with Kadala curry (black chickpeas curry), fish curry and for a light breakfast or snack people even like to have it with ripe bananas, sugar, and ghee.

In the olden days, Puttu was made steamed in a bamboo shell or a coconut shell, which gave it a very unique earthy flavour. Now the pressure cooker and the Puttu Kudam/Puttu Maker have replaced the bamboo and coconut shells.
Kadala Curry
Kadala Curry is a spicy chickpea curry, usually served with Puttu, Appam, Idiyappam, rice, or even dosa. It has a coconut and coriander base, which forms the prominent flavor. Puttu and Kadala Curry are a very famous combination for breakfast in Kerala.

The People
Jadav "Molai" Payeng
Jadav Payeng is better known as the Forest Man of India. He earned this name by spending 30 years of his life planting trees, creating a real man-made forest of 550 hectares. Thanks to this reforestation, wildlife has returned to the area. Incredibly, he did it all by himself.
He planted and tended trees along a sandbar on the Majuli island. Majuli is the biggest river island in the world. The Molai forest now encompasses an area of about 1,360 acres/550 hectares of forest. The area can be compared to the size of 15 football stadiums together.
The Molai forest created by Jadav Payeng is larger than Central Park in New York City. Thanks to him, the Molai forest now houses Bengal tigers, Indian rhinoceros, reptiles, over 100 deers, and rabbits in addition to monkeys and several varieties of birds, including a large number of vultures.

Especially during the Spring, Summer, and Fall, they have a near-constant stream of visitors basking in the structural artistry and peaceful landscape they’ve created for the community. Whoever said rocks are boring!?
